Why Traditional Meal Kits Don't Work for Glamping
I like a Pot Noodle as much as the next person. But when you are immersed in a beautiful mirrored dome in the Cotswolds countryside, it just doesn't fit. Traditional meal kits are designed for home kitchens with multiple pans, graters, peelers and air fryers. Glamping is none of those things. Here's how Glamp Gourmet was designed around one pan, a fire pit and the belief that the food should be as good as the stay.
Why Traditional Meal Kits Don't Work for Glamping (And How We Fixed That)
There is a particular kind of magic that happens when you arrive at a beautiful glamping site. You pull up to a mirrored dome in the Cotswolds, or a treehouse suspended in ancient woodland, or a shepherd's hut with a wood-fired hot tub already bubbling away. You breathe out. You think: this is it. This is exactly what I needed.
And then you realise you still have to figure out dinner.
For too long, the answer to that problem has been convenience food. And I like a Pot Noodle as much as the next person. But when you are immersed in a beautiful mirrored dome in the Cotswolds countryside, it just doesn't fit. The accommodation has been designed with extraordinary care and intention. The food should match.
That gap is exactly why Glamp Gourmet exists.
The Problem with Traditional Meal Kits
Traditional meal kits are a brilliant idea, but they are designed for home. They assume you have a fully equipped kitchen: multiple pans, a grater, a peeler, a grill, a microwave and, dare I say it, an air fryer. They are built around the idea that you cook at home, regularly, in a familiar space with everything to hand.
Glamping is none of those things.
Even when you have spent hours drooling over a glamping website, there are still unknowns when you arrive. What is the kitchen actually like? How many hobs are there? Is the oven reliable? Is there an oven at all? The excitement of arriving somewhere beautiful should not immediately tip into the anxiety of figuring out whether you can actually cook the meal you planned.
Traditional meal kits also rely on delivery to your home address, which means you still have to pack everything and transport it to your destination. Anyone who has ever arrived at a glamping site with a car full of cool boxes, carefully wrapped ingredients and a mental checklist of things that might have gone warm in transit will know exactly how stressful that is before a break has even properly begun.
And then there is the subscription model. Most traditional meal kit services want you to sign up, commit to a regular delivery and manage cancellations around your holiday plans. That works beautifully for a home routine. It makes no sense for a one-off weekend escape.
Designing for Glamping, Not for Kitchens
When I started developing Glamp Gourmet, I made a deliberate decision: every single recipe had to work on a single pan over a camp stove. That was the baseline. If it needed more than one pan, more than one heat source or any equipment beyond a knife and a chopping board, it didn't make the cut.
But here is the thing. Designing for simplicity does not mean designing for blandness. The meals can be cooked over a simple camp stove, but they are designed for the foodie. Interesting, tasty, elevated. Persian style pulled lamb flatbreads. Jollof rice with chilli buttered chicken. Creamy fennel sausage cassoulet. Smashed avocado with halloumi, eggs and sriracha. These are not sad camping meals. These are proper dinners that happen to be cooked somewhere beautiful.
Every kit arrives pre-portioned and chilled, so there is no food waste and no guesswork. The ingredients are exactly what you need, nothing more. The recipe cards are written for cooking in an unfamiliar kitchen, not a MasterChef set. And the whole thing is delivered directly to your glampsite on the day you arrive, so you turn up and dinner is already waiting.
No cool box. No supermarket dash. No packing half the kitchen into the boot of the car.
The Piper Test
Every recipe that goes into a Glamp Gourmet box has been tested by my daughter Piper. She is my most honest critic and she knows exactly what she likes when we are away. We love having a play with the fire pit or the wood-burning stove, but with no stress. It is supposed to be fun and simple, leaving plenty of time to chill out or go on adventures.
Piper has been known to make suggestions. She has strong opinions on what constitutes a proper glamping breakfast and an even stronger opinion on how Persian pulled lamb flatbreads should be assembled. If a recipe gets her seal of approval, it earns its place in the box.
If it does not, back to the drawing board.
What Glamping Food Should Feel Like
Hours cooking, prepping and stressing? No thank you. A fire pit, great ingredients and a recipe that actually works in the space you are in? Yes please.
That is the whole idea behind Glamp Gourmet. The UK staycation market has produced some of the most extraordinary places to stay in the world. Independent glampsites are creating experiences that rival the best boutique hotels. The food should be worthy of those experiences.
Traditional meal kits were not designed for this. Glamp Gourmet was.
Partnering with the Best of the Best
Glamp Gourmet doesn't work with every glamping site. It works with the ones that share the same belief: that every detail of a guest's experience matters, including the food.
Our glampsite partners are some of the most extraordinary independent stays in the UK. Treehouses suspended in ancient woodland. Geodesic domes hidden in Cotswolds countryside. Off-grid cabins with fire pits and stargazing decks. Shepherd's huts with wood-fired hot tubs. These are not average campsites. They are destinations. And the hosts who run them have usually spent years, sometimes decades, perfecting every detail of what they offer.
When a glampsite partners with Glamp Gourmet, we don't send them a generic menu and ask them to share a link. We build them a bespoke landing page, curated specifically around what works for their site and their guests. If a site doesn't have a pizza oven, pizza kits don't appear. If a host knows their guests tend to arrive late and need something quick and warming on night one, we make sure that option is front and centre. If there is a local brand they love and want to showcase alongside our range, we can work with that too.
Because the hosts know their guests best. Our job is to listen and respond.
The affiliate model itself is deliberately simple. Glampsites share their unique link with guests, earn 10% commission on every order placed through it and take on zero operational responsibility. No food hygiene registration. No storage. No logistics. No customer service. Nothing to manage. The experience for their guests is seamless and the income for the host is effortless.
Several of our partners have told us they had been thinking about offering food for a while but kept putting it on pause because coordinating it felt unmanageable. Glamp Gourmet manages it. All of it. So they can focus on what they do best, which is creating the kind of stays that people talk about for years.
Sustainability at the Heart of It
There is something slightly uncomfortable about the glamping industry's relationship with sustainability. The most beautiful natural settings in the UK deserve to be protected, not compromised. And yet the food side of a glamping trip has traditionally involved a lot of plastic packaging, a lot of food waste and a lot of unnecessary miles driven to supermarkets that may or may not stock what you need.
Glamp Gourmet was designed with this in mind from the start.
Every kit arrives in recyclable cardboard packaging with insulated lining that can go straight into household recycling. The ice packs are reusable, simply refreeze them for next time, and when they reach the end of their life the liquid drains into household drainage and the plastic wrap can be recycled at most supermarkets.
Pre-portioning ingredients is itself a sustainability measure that often gets overlooked. When you buy ingredients for a recipe at a supermarket, you inevitably buy more than you need. A bunch of herbs when you needed three sprigs. A whole head of garlic when you needed two cloves. That surplus either travels home with you or gets left behind. With Glamp Gourmet, you receive exactly what you need for each dish and nothing more.
We also work with independent UK food producers and brands wherever possible, keeping food miles low and supporting the kind of small, passionate businesses that the glamping community tends to care about. As our range grows, that commitment to championing independent UK producers only deepens.
We are honest about where we are on this journey. Sustainability is not a box to tick, it is an ongoing commitment and there is always more to do. But every decision we make starts from the right place.
Frequently Asked Questions About Glamping Food Delivery
Can you get food delivered directly to a glamping site?
Yes, and that is exactly what Glamp Gourmet does. We deliver premium meal kits directly to glampsites and self-catering stays across the UK mainland via Royal Mail Tracked 24. Customers choose their delivery date at checkout, selecting the day they arrive so the box is waiting for them when they get there.
Do you need special equipment to cook Glamp Gourmet meal kits?
No. Every kit is designed to be cooked on a single heat source: a hob, BBQ, fire pit or pizza oven. Beyond that, all you need is a pan, a knife and a chopping board. No graters, no peelers, no air fryers, no specialist equipment of any kind.
Is there a subscription or minimum order?
No subscription and no minimum order. You order exactly what you want, when you want it, for one trip or ten. There is no commitment and no cancellation to manage.
How long does the food stay fresh?
Kits arrive chilled in insulated packaging that keeps everything at the right temperature for up to 24 hours after delivery. The ice packs are included to maintain the chill throughout transit.
What if my glamping site doesn't have a full kitchen?
That is precisely why Glamp Gourmet was designed the way it was. Every recipe works on a single heat source with minimal equipment. Whether you have a fully equipped kitchen or just a camp stove and a fire pit, the kits work the same way.
Can glampsites partner with Glamp Gourmet?
Yes. We work with independent glampsites across the UK through a simple affiliate scheme. There is no sign-up fee, no commitment and no minimum orders.
